2 railway officers suspended for train derailment

CHITTAGONG: A station master and a train controller were suspended on charge of negligence in duty causing derailments of locomotive and train at Faujderhat and Pahartali.
They are Station Master Sanjib Dash of Faujderhat station and Train Controller Shahidul Anwar of Pahartali station.
Sources in Bangladesh Railway (east) said investigation by the five-member committee, which was formed after the incidents, found that negligence in duty of the two had caused the derailments.
Bangladesh Railway (East) Divisional Traffic Officer Firoz Iftekhar suspended the duo temporarily following recommendation made by the probe committee, they said.
Mentionable, locomotive (engine) of a goods-laden train derailed near Faujderhat station under Sitakunda upazila in the district on September 14.
Following the derailment, other trains were running through ‘Down-line’ instead of ‘Up-line’ from Pahartoli in the city to Faujderhat in Sitakunda.
As the Dhaka-bound Mohanagar Ghodhuli was getting on ‘Down-line’ after crossing Pahartali station, four of its eighteen compartments also derailed at 3:30pm on the day.
