Khaleda returns home

BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia returned home on Thursday after performing hajj in Saudi Arabia.
A regular flight of Emirates Airlines carrying Khaleda Zia landed at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka at about 5:10pm.
BNP secretary-general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir received Khaleda Zia at VIP Lounge, said her press-wing staff Sayrul Kabir Khan.
The leaders and activists of the party and its associate organisations accorded a reception to Khaleda on her return home.
Defying police barricades, a good number of BNP leaders and activists, including Mirza Abbas, stayed on the airport premises with banners and placards and welcomed Khaleda.
Security was tightened inside and outside the airport premises following the return of the BNP chief. Additional law enforcers were deployed on the airport premises and the airport road to avert any untoward situation.

Armoured Personal Carrier and water canon vehicles of police were seen stationed at the intersection of the airport road.
Witnesses said that law enforcers tried to resist BNP activists from entering the airport premises.
They received Khaleda, chanting slogans when her motorcade was slowly passing through the road towards her Gulshan residence. Many activists riding motorbikes escorted Khaleda.
Talking to journalists at the airport, Mirza Abbas criticised the government for ‘obstructing’ BNP leaders and activists from entering the airport premises, and said it’s out of political norms.
Khaleda Zia along with her entourage flew to Saudi Arabia on September 7 at the invitation of Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud to perform hajj.
Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman also discussed organisational and political issues during their stay in Saudi Arabia for two weeks, party sources said.
