CHITTAGONG: Pragoti Industries Limited, an enterprise of Bangladesh Steel and Engineering Corporation (BSEC), starts assembling Mahindra Scorpio S10 SUV and Scorpio Double Cab Pik up CKD vehicles for commercial production and marketing in the country.
To mark the commercial production and marketing of the two stylish and next generation vehicles of Indian vehicle manufacturer Mahindra and Mahindra Ltd (M&M), a factory roll-out was held at Pragati factory at Sitakunda in the district on Thursday.
BSEC Chairman Imtiaz Hossain Chowdhury was the chief guest at the roll-out attended by Mahindra and Mahindra Country Manager Pankaj Singh and Pragoti Industries Limited Managing Director Md Abul Khayer Sarder.
Addressing the programme, BSEC Chairman Imtiaz Hossain said activities of Pragoti became limited in assembling and marketing vehicles of Mitsubishi. But, the technology being used in producing vehicles in Japan and European countries is not suitable or cost-effective for countries like Bangladesh.
"Vehicle owners in Japan don't have to use back seats, which are widely used in countries like ours. Besides, spare parts and servicing centres of Japanese vehicles are not available here. So, we have chosen Mahindra for marketing quality vehicle at a less price," said the BSEC chairman.
Servicing of these vehicles would be available in all the 64 districts in the county, he added.
Pragati MD Abul Khayer said, Scorpio is an ideal vehicle for landscape in Bangladesh, environment-friendly and economical in fuel consumption.
