The National Board of Revenue Chairman Md Nojibur Rhaman said the country’s revenue collection system, rules and regulations have become role model for the world community.
NBR chairman came up with remarks while inaugurating a two-day workshop on VAT at the Diploma Engineer’s Institutions Bhaban in the capital on Tuesday.
The workshop organised by the Large Taxpayers Unit (LTU) was presided over by NBR Commissioner Shahnaj Parveen. NBR Members Barrister Jahangir Hossain and Md. Rezaul Hasan also spoke at the workshop, among others.
Addressing the workshop as chief guest, the NBR chief said, many countries of the world are now following Bangladesh as a role model due to its progress including revenue earning system, its rules and regulations system.
Citing an example, NBR chairman said, “Our bordering country India has two separate boards for collecting direct tax and indirect tax. But the coordination between the two boards is becoming very challenging for them.”
“But, we are conducting those tasks by the Customs, VAT and Income Tax Division under only one board without any challenges,” he added.
“NBR is performing its duties properly in collecting revenue,” the NBR chairman also said adding, “The revenue is the key to development as like oxygen required for lives. The country is developing day by day. So, it is needed to strengthen the initiatives of collecting internal resource.”
Representatives from about 168 organisations of LTU attended the workshop, organised aiming at creating awareness about the new VAT law, which would be implemented by July 1, 2016.
