A trader was found dead with his throat slit in his house at Chawkbazar in the capital early Tuesday.
Police recovered the body of Jamil, 35, a trader of plastic products, stuffed in a sack kept hidden under his bed. He was a resident of 59 Water Works Road.
Police also arrested his wife Mousumi Akter and two others — Aslam and Al Amin — in this connection.
Md Hafizur Rahman, inspector of Chawkbazar police station, said the victim’s sister and niece filed a complaint on Monday evening that Jamil has been missing since morning.
“Jamil’s wife told them that he left for his shop in the morning. On the other hand, employees of the shop said Jamil didn’t turn up on the day,” he added.
After the complaint was filed, Mousumi Akter was brought to the police station for interrogation at about 10:00pm. During the interrogation, she gave inconsistent statements about her husband.
“Later, we took her home. We found both the bed rooms under lock and key. At first, she said the keys have been lost. But she finally produced the key after we put pressure on her,” the police inspector said.
Jamil’s body was found wrapped in polythene under a bed.
“After the body was recovered, Mousumi claimed that two men —Aslam and Al Amin — killed her husband on Sunday night and they also threatened to kill her son, if she informs anybody.” Aslam, a manager of a shop in Chawkbazar, and Al Amin were arrested from Chawkbazar area early Tuesday.
The police official said Mousumi admitted that he had extra-marital affairs with Aslam.
The body was sent to Sir Salimullah Medical College morgue for autopsy.
