Public Administration Minister and Awami League general secretary Syed Ashraful Islam, who was in-charge of the Ministry of Defence in parliamentary affairs, was relieved of this responsibility on Tuesday.
From now on, Law Minister Anisul Huq will discharge the responsibilities of the Defence Ministry business in the House, said a parliament secretariat press release without mentioning any reason.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is holding the charge of the Defence Ministry.
Syed Ashraf was supposed to place two separate bills styled Defence Services (Amendment) Bill 2016 and Defence Services (Supreme Command) Bill 2016 in the House Tuesday night. His name was also mentioned in the printed copy of the day’s proceedings.
But the law minister placed those bills in the House in place of Ashraf.
Syed Ashraf was not present in the House at that time.
Soon after the placement of the bills, the press release was distributed among the journalists.
Ashraf was discharging responsibilities as in-charge of the Ministry of Defence in parliamentary affairs since the formation of the 10th parliament in 2014.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, earlier, removed Syed Ashraf from the LGRD ministry last year. However, in the face of criticism in the party, he was made the Public Administration Minister within a week.
