Mohammedan Sporting Club thumped Legends of Rupganj by seven wickets in their Dhaka Premier League match in Fatullah on Tuesday.
Left-arm spinner Naeem Islam jnr returned 4 for 48 from his 10 overs, apart from taking three catches as Rupganj were bowled out for 212 in 49.3 overs after being asked to bat at the Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium. Interestingly, however, Naeem was reported for a suspect action in Mohammedan’s previous match, against Victoria Sporting Club on April 28.
Naeem removed Mizanur Rahman and Junaid Siddique, the Rupganj openers, who had put on 107. The rest couldn’t capitalise on the start. Mizanur made 63 off 85 balls with seven fours and two sixes, but after Soumya Sarkar fell for 20 in the 31st over, Rupganj imploded. Habibur Rahman took 3 for 26 in 10 overs, while the other Naeem Islam, the offspinner, took 2 for 38.
Shykat Ali and Ezaz Ahmed, the Mohammedan openers, made good starts, but both fell by the 22nd over. Upul Tharanga and Mushfiqur Rahim added 106 for the third wicket and nearly sealed the game. Tharanga top scored with 71 off 99 balls, including seven fours and one six, while Mushfiqur was unbeaten on 51 off 64 balls. The end came through a flourish from Ariful Haque, who struck three sixes in his unbeaten, 17-ball 24
