CHITTAGONG: The elections to the Chittagong University Teachers’ Association (CUTA) will be held today, reports UNB.
Pro-liberation and ruling party-backed progressive teachers under ‘yellow panel’ and pro-BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami teachers under ‘white panel’, are contesting the election.
A total of 22 aspirants are going to vie for 11 posts from the two panels, said chief election commissioner Prof Dr MA Abdul Gafur.
Prof Dr AFM Aourongojeb of Management Department and Prof Sukanta Bhattacharya of English Department will vie for the posts of President and General Secretary respectively from the yellow panel.
On the other hand, Prof Mozaffar Ahmed Chowdhury of Philosophy Department and Prof Dr Mohammad Atiar Rahman of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Department will vie for the posts of President and General Secretary respectively from the white panel.
Prof Khaled Misbahuzzaman of Forestry and Environmental Sciences Department from the ‘yellow panel’ and Prof Mohammad Jahedur Rahman Chowdhury of Marine Science and Fisheries Department from ‘white panel’ are going to vie for the post of Vice-President.
A total of 862 faculty members of the university will cast their votes in the election to be held at Social Science Faculty auditorium between 9am to 1.30pm.
