Remote learning, better known as e-learning has been a new buzzword is the field of education as corona pandemic changed the landscape of daily lives of people.
Remote learning is where the student and the educator are connected over internet and information is relayed through technology, such as discussion boards, video conferencing..
And the start-up Harriken emerged to bring new experience in the domain of edutech. Harriken is a comprehensive e-education portal dedicated to connect students with teachers from all over the nation, and provide seamless real time learning for all.
The first of its kind, Harriken is meant to be an exclusive blend of interactive classrooms complete with mentors’ real-time guidance and the accessibility and convenience granted by technology.
There are diversification in lessons from English to Physics to Math to professional courses to ensure remote learning for all classes of people.
Teachers signing up with Harriken are required to create their detailed profile on the platform, from where interested students are at liberty to subscribe to sessions best suited for their needs. These ‘live’ classrooms can be accessed in real-time from the comforts of the home.
Researches indicate factors such as lack of teacher-student & peer-to-peer interactions and too much flexibility- so much so that 40 to 80 percent online students drop out of courses due to a notorious lack of commitment, as some of the major reasons behind the low success rate of conventional e-learning approaches i.e. prior recorded videos made available for use at students’ own discretion at their own time.
Officials of Harriken claimed the platform is developed to ensure effective use of the huge existing tutor resources that we have in our country by removing geographical boundaries to access them.
Private tutors in our country especially in Dhaka has to go through a lot of hassle by spending hours of time, money and energy on the road to reach the students place in order to teach them just for an hour.
Most of the country’s women find it hard to take part in both giving and taking tuitions after sunset (even in daytime) due to the security concern that their family and themselves have.
More than 35 percent of the teachers and 42 percent of the students signed up with Harriken are women, according to official data.
Unlike traditional e-learning portals, Harrikenaims to focus on each aspect that can contribute to make both teaching and learning more effective. All sessions takes place in real-time and maintain specific class schedules where teachers will of course, have the liberty to arrange and customize the timing as needed.
A maximum of 10 students is allotted per session to ensure effective interaction between the participants. An integrated auto analysis & reporting system for teacher evaluation, compliant reporting, teacher review & feedback, etc. is also put into work to ensure the quality of education being disseminated.
“Based on extensive research & brainstorming, we designed Harriken to make education accessible, effective and economical for students and at the same time, financially rewarding for educators,” a said a spokesperson of Harriken
Harriken website is integrating a wide range of curriculum-based private tuitions, college and university certified courses, academic subject-wise lessons, skill-based trainings and so on.
Since the official launch of its website in the start of June2020, Harriken is home to over 500 registered teachers nationwide, and is currently serving over 3500 parents and students.
Harriken team likes to attribute part of this immense success to their state of the art CRM system providing round-the-clock support to all their stakeholders via a multitude of channels. What’s more is that having different modes of payments like bank cards and other digital payment platforms to settle client transactions isalso playing a great role in bringing together so many teachers and students alike under one umbrella.
