Bangladesh pace bowler Mustafizur Rahman claimed his 100 wickets in just 54 ODIs, making him the fastest Bangladeshi bowler to reach the milestone as he claimed back to back five-wicket haul in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2019 during their match against Pakistan picking up 5 wickets for 75 runs.
He reached the milestone by dismissing Haris Sohail with a back of length delivery during Bangladesh’s last match of ICC World Cup 2019 against Pakistan at Lord’s on Friday.
By doing so, he also became the fourth fastest in the World to reach 100 wickets, leaving Australian speedster Brett Lee behind him. Lee reached the milestone of 100 wickets in 55 matches.
Mustfizur joined New Zealand speedster Shane Bond who also reached the milestone in 54 matches.
Afghanistan leg-spinner Rashid Khan is the fastest, having reached the 100-wicket landmark in just 44 matches. Australia’s left-arm fast bowler Mitchell Starc who is currently the highest wicket-taker in this World Cup with 24 wickets is second on the list, reaching the milestone in 52 matches. Pakistan’s off-spinner Saqlain Mushtaq got there in 53 matches.
Mustafizur needed two wickets to reach the feat and as usual he got those two in the death overs.
The pacer, adorably called Fizz, showed his vulnerability with new ball as he couldn’t take any wickets in the first 20 overs in this tournament.
All of his 17 wickets, so far came after 30 overs.
However Mustafizur Rahman’s inconsistency raised a concern whether he could claim his 100 Wickets in this World Cup but the fast bowler’s epic performance against India in the previous match on July 2 quelled that tension.
During the course of his 5 wicket for 59 runs against India, the second Fifer for a Bangladeshi bowler in World Cup after Shakib Al Hasan, Mustafizur went Past Abdur Razzak’s haul of 13 wickets in a single edition. Razzak created the record for a Bangladeshi bowler in 2007 World Cup.
By reaching 100 wickets in 54 matches, he also broke the record of Abdur Razzak who was the fastest amongst the Bangladesh bowler to reach 100 wickets in 69 matches.
Captain Mashrafe Mortaza reached 100-wicket mark in 78 matches.
