Prof Abdus Salam appointed as DU pro-VC

Prof Abdus Salam has been appointed as the pro-vice-chancellor (academic) of Dhaka University (DU), according to an official notification issued on Monday.

The Ministry of Education issued the notification, signed by Deputy Secretary ASM Kashem, with the approval of the president and chancellor.

Prof Salam currently serves as the acting dean of the Faculty of Science at Dhaka University.

The notification states that the appointment has been made in accordance with Article 13(1) of the Dhaka University Order, 1973. 

He will serve as pro-VC for a four-year term from the date of joining the post.

As per the terms of the appointment, he will receive the same salary and allowances as his current position. He will also be entitled to other benefits in line with the rules.

The notification further states that he must reside on the university campus during his tenure. 

It also notes that the president and chancellor retain the authority to cancel the appointment at any time, if necessary.
