President, PM condemn the killings

President Md Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina have strongly condemned the deadly mosque shootings in New Zealand which left at least 49 people, including three Bangladeshi expatriates, killed and dozens injured.

 “We are deeply shocked to learn the shooting incidents at two mosques in Christchurch of New Zealand. We strongly condemn this heinous act of terrorism,” the president said in a message.

The head of the state expressed his heartfelt condolence at the loss of lives and prayed for early recovery of the injured ones.

In a separate message sent to New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern, premier Sheikh Hasina condemned the mosque attacks and offered deep condolence at the deaths in the shootings.

Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen also expressed grave concern over the attacks on two

mosques in Christchurch of New Zealand.

He said the Bangladesh cricket team, now in Christchurch, will be brought back home immediately.

“We are lucky that our cricketers escaped unhurt from the attacks. We will bring them home immediately,” Momen said.

Bangladesh national cricketers narrowly escaped the attack on Al Noor Mosque where they were going to offer Jum’a prayers. Later, they came back to their hotel safely.

The foreign minister said Bangladesh is getting all updates about the attacks through Australian High Commissioner Sufiur Rahman as Bangladesh has no mission in New Zealand.

Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal and Law Minister Anisul Huq also condemned the terror attacks.

Kamal prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family members of the victims.
