Motor Rally honouring Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th birth anniversary to raise awareness on following traffic rules

Kalinga Motor Sports Club (KMSC), with the support of Ministry of External Affairs, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India has organised a Motor Rally to commemorate 150 years of Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary.

The motor rally will cover 7,250 km in 22 days in 3 countries and will involve 10 vehicles. The rally commenced on 4 February 2019 at Rajghat and will conclude on 24 February 2019 in Yangon. The rally will pass through Sabarmati, Porbandar, Sewagram, Jabalpur, Dandi, Yervada, Lucknow, Chauri-Chaura, Champaran, Santiniketan and Kolkata. The aim of the rally is to spread the message of peace and non-violence. It will also promote the message of safe driving.

 The rally arrived in Bangladesh on 17 February 2019 through the Petrapole-Benapole border and will depart on 19 February 2019 to India via Akhaura-Agartala route. A flag off event will be held at the High Commission today (1500-1600 hrs) whereas Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader, MP will present as the chief guest while LGRD and Cooperatives Minister State Minister Swapan Bhattacharjee, MP as the guest of honour.

The motor rally delegation comprising of 35 participants and 10 vehicles is led by Shri Shambhu Singh, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, Government of India.

An exhibition on photographs of Gandhiji and khadi will be organised. The event will witness participation from representatives of Gandhi Ashrams in Bangladesh, Indian community, school children who participated in the quiz competition Bapu@150, academicians and media. Students of Indira Gandhi Cultural Centre will perform at the event.
