Completion of the much-coveted metro rail project will take two more years as it faced delay after the Gulshan attack, planning minister MA Mannan said on Monday.
“Our first metro rail project, known as MRT-6 will be completed by 2022. Although it was supposed to be complete earlier, the Holey Artisan incident held back the project work,” MA Mannan said. The minister was talking to journalists after JICA chief representative for Bangladesh Hitoshi Hirata met him at his Sher-e-Bangla Nagar office.
He, however, said other Japanese projects are well on track in compliance with their work schedule.
The whole 20.1km MRT-6 project from Uttara third phase to Bangladesh Bank Motijheel was scheduled to by complete by December 2020 according to a revised action plan.
All Japan-funded projects faced a huge setback after the July 01 Gulshan attack that left seven Japanese citizens killed. After the incident, all Japanese project experts left Dhaka, deserting the project work.
Actually, the project’s original deadline was 2024 which was later advanced four years after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s intervention.
