The government has taken a number of projects worth about Tk 13 billion (1300 crore) for development of the country’s tourism industry, said State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Mahbub Ali.
The minister disclosed the information saying that the government plans to tap the unexplored potential of tourism sector at a function at Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation (BPC) on Thursday.Presided over by BPC chairman Akhtar uz Zaman Khan Kabir, Tourism and Aviation Secretary Mohibul Haque also spoke on the occasion.
Stressing the need for the development of tourism sector, Mahbub Ali said that the government has taken the projects for infrastructure and skill development for tourism sector.
“The Awami League-led government has taken a tourism mega plan to make Bangladesh one of the prime destinations in Asian tourism”, said the minister adding that they are going to start fresh Bangladesh branding activities around the world soon.
The country’s tourism beauty has not seen by the travelers and government will do whatever needs to bring more tourists in the country, said Mahbub Ali.
Urging the tourism stakeholders to put maximum efforts to turn Bangladesh a prime tourism destination, he said adding that the sector will become vibrant in coming days.
It may mention that the present government took a three-year plan for the development of tourism sector in 2016. Even, 2016 was declared as ‘Tourism Year’ with a target to bring one million foreign tourists in the country.
