A Dhaka court on Wednesday recorded deposition of electrician of Holey Artisan Bakery in a case filed over the attack on the café that left 22 dead including 17 foreigners in 2016.

Judge Mujibur Rahman of Anti-Terrorism Special Tribunal in Dhaka recorded the testimony of electrician Sanjoy Barua.

After his statement, defence counsels cross-examined Sanjoy. Later, the court fixed January 23 for the next hearing in the case filed with Gulshan Police Station.

The trial against eight militants started on November 26 last year in the much-talked about case.

Six accused — Jahangir Alam alias Rajib Gandhi, Rakibul Hasan Rigan, Rashedul Islam, Sohel Mahfuz, Mizanur Rahman and Hadisur Rahman Sagor are now in jail. Two other accused — Shahidul Islam Khaled and Mamunur Rashid Ripon — are on the run.

According to the case, gunmen stormed the Holey Artisan Bakery in the capital’s Gulshan area, opened fire and took around 40 people, including restaurant staff and guests — both locals and foreigners – hostage on July 1, 2016.

Twenty hostages including 17 foreigners and two senior police officers were killed in the terror attack at the restaurant.
