The newly formed cabinet will sit for its first meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office on Jaunary 21, sources in the cabinet division said on Monday.

Usually, the cabinet sits on Mondays, but it can also sit any day as per the desire of the prime minister.

After winning the December 30 polls with an absolute majority, Sheikh Hasina took oath on January 7 as the prime minister for the third consecutive term and formed the government for the fourth time.

The new cabinet was formed with 24 ministers, 19 state ministers and three deputy ministers, dropping some senior ministers of her previous government.

The Awami League gets the responsibility to run the state after winning the polls with a landslide victory over BNP -dominated Jatiya Oikya Front.

Sheikh Hasina is going to make a history of running the state for 20 years as Prime Minister if she completes the new term.

None who had ruled the country in the past got the opportunity to run the state for the fourth term.

Sheikh Hasina first led her Awami League to office through 1996 general election, 21 years after the assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on August 15 in 1975.

She first took the oath as the premier on June 23 in 1996.

She formed the government for the second time on January 6 after winning the December 29, 2008 election with an absolute majority in the parliament.

Hasina took the oath for the consecutive second term on January 12 after winning the January 5, 2014 election boycotted by the BNP-led alliance.

She is the lone premier who is going to serve the country for 15 years in a row.

Though the new cabinet had a chance to sit on January 14, the premier escaped it due to other businesses.

Sources say as most of her colleagues are new in the cabinet, she wants to provide them some time to understand the work of their respective ministries.

Besides, the premier also nodded a proposal of visiting different ministries.

As per the schedule, she is going to visit the Local Government, Rural Development and Co-Operatives Ministry on Thursday.

She will also visit others ministries in phases, they add.
