Five jail policemen have been suspended on Saturday on charges of assaulting a photojournalist in Barisal.
Shamim Ahmed, who works for a national daily, came under attack from the five while taking photos of a wheat-laden van coming out of the jail building on Saturday.The five are Ujjwal Mia, Abul Khair, Abu Bakkar Siddik Khokon, Kawsar and Sayeed.
Shamim Ahmmed said several prison guards beat him when he was capturing photo of prison guards and police engaging in a scuffle over the wheat-laden van exiting Barishal Central Jail building.
Local journalists protested the assault and demanded justice for the journalist.
Higher officials of the prison suspended the five and assured further action against them.
Barishal Kotwali Model Police Station Sub-Inspector (SI) Mainul Islam said 28 sacks of wheat were seized from Bazar Road of the town and two persons were detained in this connection.
