Growers happy with tomato production in Naogaon

NAOGAON: Farmers of Naogaon districts are mostly benefited growing massive tomato this season as they are making huge profit compare to previous year.

Due to favourable weather condition and timely supply of necessary agri-input, tomato farmers are achieving bumper production and fair market price this season, said sub-assistance agriculture officers.

The farmers are also seen happy over fair market price of newly harvested tomato across the eleventh upazilas of the region. Good number growers have started becoming self-reliant this season as they are selling each maund of cops at Tk 2000 to 2100 in the retail market while Tk 1500 to 1800 in the wholesale market from last week across the region.

During planting seed, Bangladesh Agriculture Development Corporation (BADC) has provided quality seeds among the farmers so that the farmers can get high yield crops. The good output method can be rendered smoothly.

They had made a good profit last year growing high yield tomato spending miniature capital as they had sold each maund of tomato at Tk 1500 to 1600 during harvesting period against only Tk 900 to 1050 production cost.

The farmers have emphasised on the tomato farming denying other rabi crops, said farmer Fazalur Rahman under Raninagar upazila of the district. He is strongly optimistic to make Tk 0.1 million from his a bigha of land this season, he added.

The farmers have sown seed of tomato from Kartik to Agrhayan and started harvesting from the first week of December. The farmers are getting over 30 to 40 maund of yield from a bigha of land. The farmers have invested Tk over 36,000 to 42000 to grow potato on a bigha of land.

DAE official said the farmers have shown more interest to bring new some crop land under early tomato cultivation this season due to its lucrative profit. We have given them logistic support among the eager farmers, he added.
