A total of 77 out of 160 aspirants have lost their candidacies after the hearing on their appeals on Thursday.
Among the heavyweight candidates whose petitions have been rejected is former BNP minister Mir Mohammad Nasir aspiring to contest the polls from Chattagram-5 constituency.He is now out of the electoral race as his appeal has been rejected by the Election Commission.
The other heavyweights include former deputy minister Ruhul Kuddus Talukder Dulu of Natore-2, former lawmaker Wadud Bhuiyan of Khagrachhari and former state minister Iqbal Hasan Mahmud Tuku of Sirajganj-2.

The Election Commission declared that it will hear the appeal of BNP Chief Khaleda Zia, who filed an appeal against the EC decision, and decide her fate on Saturday.
