Bangladesh fielding consultant Ryan Cook is searching talents like fielding greats Jonathan Neil “Jonty” Rhodes and Herschelle Gibbs from Bangladesh. He believes that if the cricketers are exposed to such idols, Bangladesh’s fielding will take newer heights.
Cook is striving to take Bangladesh to a higher level of fielding in cricket. After taking the responsibility of being Bangladesh’s fielding coach in July this year, Cook soon became popular in the team for his innovative styles. However, Cook’s hard work has not yet been reflected noticeably in Bangladesh’s fielding performance.Cook said that, in order to get long-term results, time is required and there is need of a fielding idol. Growing up in the exceptional fielding atmosphere of South Africa, Cook is no stranger to the grandeur of fielding heroes and the effect it holds on the fielder’s mind.
Ryan Cook said to the reporters in a press meet at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Monday that he is satisfied with Bangladesh’s current stance at fielding. He opined that Bangladesh needs to do better than good to take them to newer heights in fielding.
“I am over Bangladesh current perspective on fielding. They have had considerable progress. But when talking about the quality of fielding, South African cricketers had great examples to follow from legendary fielders. Bangladesh’s cricketers are trying to go there. To achieve such, Bangladesh have to give better efforts,” said Cook.
“I want them to work to build up their standards. Of course they must try with an objective to become the best fielding team. I have no doubts on their ability to become just that,” Cook concluded.
