Ayub Bachchu laid to rest in Ctg

CHATTOGRAM: Bangla-desh’s band music legend and founder of rock band LRB (Love Runs Blind), Ayub Bachchu was laid to eternal rest next to his mother at their family graveyard at Chaitanya Goli here on Saturday.

He was buried after the final namaz-e-janaza held at Jamiatul Falah National Mosque in the port city’s WASA intersection after Asr prayers.

Earlier in the morning, a flight of US-Bangla airlines carrying the body landed at Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram from the capital around 11:00am.

According to the airport manager, Sarwar-e-Jahan, Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin received the body at the airport where a large number of fans thronged.

Later, the body was taken to the house of his maternal grandfather in Madarbari area under supervision of the CCC. Bachchu’s maternal uncle Md Abdul Halim received the body from the mayor around 12:00 noon.

People started coming to the house since 10:00am to have a last glimpse of their beloved singer.  Relatives, friends and well-wishers paid their last tribute to the legendary artiste. At that time, many of them broke down.   

Ayub Bachchu’s son Anaf Tajoar Ayub apologised before the gathering on behalf of his father with a request for offering prayer (doa) for the departed soul of his father.

Then the body was brought to Jamiatul Falah National Mosque around 3:00pm for final namaz-e-janaza. The body was kept there for some time so that people from all walks of life can pay their last respect to the celebrated band musician.

Bachchu’s father Md Ishaq, CCC Mayor Nasir, Chattogram Divisional Commissioner Abdul Mannan, Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner Md Mahabubor Rahman, city unit Awami League acting President Mahtab Uddin Chowdhury, Chattogram Development Authority Chairman Abdus Salam and Singer Partha Barua were present, among others. Ultimately, the mosque premises turned into a human sea as thousands of people from all strata of life rushed there to pay their last respect to the proud son of Chattogram.

Addressing the gathering, CCC Mayor AJM Nasir Uddin revealed that Bachchu had a wish to develop a house in the port city for living with his father for the rest of his life. He announced that a bust of the singer would be installed at a suitable place in the city.

This was followed by the last janaza. The body was then taken to Chaitanya Goli graveyard for burial beside the grave of Bachchu’s mother as per his last wish.

Mentionable, the rock-star died of heart attack in the capital on Thursday at the age of 56. The first janaza was held at the National Eidgah after Jum’a prayers on Friday while the second janaza was held after Asr prayers on the Channel-i premises. 

Earlier, the body was kept at the Central Shaheed Minar in the capital from 10:30am to 12:30pm where people from all walks of life paid their last tribute to the great rockstar.
