Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader on Saturday said there is no necessity of dialogue with any political party before the upcoming national election.
“No situation that requires (Awami League’s) dialogue with any political party before the upcoming national elections prevails in the country. It is unnecessary,” he said.Quader, also minister for road transport and bridges, was addressing a press briefing after emerging from a secretary-level meeting at party president Sheikh Hasina’s political office in the capital’s Dhanmondi.
He said, “As per plan of the Election Commission, polls schedule is likely to be declared in the first week of November.”
He posed a question saying who will hold a dialogue with whom within a period of 10 to 12 days.
The minister said that the newly floated Jatiya Oikya Front sat with the foreigners as it has no people’s involvement.
“After formation of the Front, the alliance leaders first went to the foreigners, not the countrymen. They lack people’s acceptability,” he said.
Replying to a query, Quader said the law enforcers will take action if the Front men go to the shrine of Hazrat Shahjalal (RA) at Sylhet for creating anarchy. He said Awami League is not worried over formation of Jatiya Oikya Front as its allies could not wage any movement in last 10 years.
“Two wickets have fallen just after formation of the Oikya Front, let see what happens next,” he said.
Replying to another query, he said his party has nothing to do if any party splits.
“We’ll not be involved in spliting any party and the specific party will be responsible for its split,” he said.
Expressing solidarity with the demand of women journalists that Mainul Hosein seek public apology for making objectionable comments to journalist Masuda Bhatti, Quader said: “Mainul Hosein, one of the masterminds of 1/11, made indecent comments against Masuda Bhatti.”
“I condemn the incident which is punishable under conventional law,” he said.
