Malaysian held with 7 kg gold at Dhaka airport

A Malaysian citizen was held with seven kilogrammes of gold from Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in the capital on Sunday night.

The detainee was identified as Chan Gee Keong, 47, a Malaysian passport holder and resident of Selangor, Putrajaya, Malaysia.

Othello Chowdhury, deputy commissioner of customs, said Keong arrived in Dhaka on a Malindo Air flight at around 10:00 pm. Acting on information, a Preventive Team of Dhaka Custom House challenged him while passing the green channel.

“After searching him, seven gold bars, each weighed one kilogram and wrapped in carbon paper and yellow tape, were found inside his jacket,” he added. The total market value of the seized gold is Tk 3.50 crore.
