CHATTOGRAM: A leader of ‘Puja Udjapan Parishad’ was stabbed to death over leadership in committee in the city’s Pahartali area on Thursday night.

Police arrested the alleged killer identified as Shimul Dhar alias Babu, 30, after the incident.

The deceased was identified as Bishu Kumar Dhar, 28, son of Milon Dhar of the city’s Dakkin Kattali area. He was the treasure of Pahartali Thana Puja Udjapan Parishad.

Sources said there had a dispute between Shimul and Bishu over the committee for long.    

Shimul stabbed Bishu with sharp weapon when the latter was walking through a road after coming out from a house in Sagorika Shibbari More area around 8:00pm.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) Sadip Kumar Das of Pahartali Police Station said they arrested Shimul from in front of Chittagong Eye and Infirmary Training Complex soon after the incident. He said they recovered the blood-stained knife and clothes of the killer from his house.

In the primary interrogation, the arrestee admitted that he killed Bishu over the previous dispute centring puja committee, the police officer said.

A case was filed accusing the arrestee with the police station in this connection, the OC added.
