Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC) Panel Mayor-1 Osman Goni passed away at a hospital in Singapore on Saturday morning. He was 69.

Osman Goni, who had been suffering from lungs cancer, breathed his last at Singapore General Hospital at 8:35am (Bangladesh Time) while he was undergoing treatment there, said DNCC public relations officer.

The DNCC panel mayor went to Singapore for treatment on August 14. His body will be brought   home today. He left behind his wife, four sons and a host of relatives and well-wishers to mourn his death.

Osman Goni was senior politician and had been involved with Awami Leage politics since his student life.

Until his death, he had one of three nominated panel mayors and elected councilor of ward no. 21 of DNCC.

The government on September 5, 2017 formed a three-member panel, including Osman Gani, to discharge the duties of DNCC Mayor Annisul Huq when he fell sick.

On 14 September, 2017, he joined as panel mayor-1 of DNCC. 

He was born on May 20, 1949 at Middle Badda in the capital.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina expressed profound shock at his death.

Another member of the panel Md Jamal Mostafa also expressed deep shock at his death.
