Afghanistan handed Bangladesh a defeat by 136 runs in their Group B encounter of Asia Cup 2018 at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi on Thursday.
Bangladesh were bundled for 119 runs in 42.1 overs by Afghanistan in the last group stage clash of the tournament.The Tigers will meet India in the super four match today at 5:30pm (BST).
Both the openers of Bangladesh made a frustrating start of their innings as Litton Kumar Das managed only 6 runs off 14 balls while his debutant opening partner Nazmul Hossain Shanto made 7 runs off 13 balls.
All-rounder Shakib Al Hasan scored the team highest 32 runs off 55 balls while Mahmudullah Riyad attained the second highest of 27 runs off 54 balls with 2 boundaries.
Afghanistan bowlers Rashid Khan, Gulbadin Naib and Mujeeb Ur Rahman got two wickets each respectively.
Earlier in the match after opting to bat first, Afghanistan played full 50 overs for 255 for 7 where Rashid Khan hit an half century of 57* runs and shared a partnership of 95 in 9.1 overs in the unbeaten 8th wicket stand with Gulbadin Naib (42*) after number-four batsman Hashmatullah Shahidi’s top-scoring innings of 58 runs.
Shakib Al Hasan bagged four wickets conceding 42 runs to slow down Afghanistan.Later, Rashid (57 not out) and Naib (42 not out) contributed crucial runs in the lower order to help Afghanistan post a challenging total.
The duo registered an unbeaten 95-run eighth wicket stand.
Bangladesh skipper Mashrafe Mortaza was the expensive bowler for their side conceding 67 runs from his 8-over spell.
