New Delhi: Indian Minister of Commerce and Industry and Civil Aviation Suresh Prabhu is scheduled to arrive in Dhaka on September 23 on a three-day official visit.
The Indian minister is coming to Bangladesh to discuss trade with a special focus on border haat (market) and other bilateral issues between the two countries. At the invitation of Bangladesh Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, Prabhu will be visiting Bangladesh up to September 25.
This visit is designed to increase bilateral trade between the two friendly nations, according to sources at the commerce ministry in New Delhi.
The officials at the commerce ministry think the bilateral trade could boost after the inauguration of rail links and oil pipeline between the countries by the two premiers.
The Indian commerce minister will sit with his Bangladeshi counterpart in Dhaka to reach final understanding with Bangladesh over the issues.
During the visit, there is a plan to take the Indian minister to Tofail’s constituency as he desires to visit rural areas.
Prabhu was supposed to visit Bangladesh in June but he could not come to Dhaka at the time due to some unavoidable circumstances. The two ministers will discuss mechanisms to reduce trade deficits between the two friendly neighbours during the visit.
