CHATTOGRAM: Deprived leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) Chattogram Government College unit vandalised vehicles and put barricade on road demanding cancellation of the newly announced committee of the unit on Tuesday.

Sources and witnesses said the agitating BCL-men, loyal to Chattogram City Corporation Mayor and city unit Awami League General Secretary AJM Nasir Uddin, started gathering at the college campus since early morning.

At one stage, they took to the street and put up barricade setting tyres on fire for around two hours since 11:00am.

The situation caused severe traffic gridlock on the both sides of the busy road.

Contacted, Assistant Commissioner (AC-Chawk Bazar Zone) Novel Chakma of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) said they removed the agitating students from the road after putting barricade.

Vice President Obaidul Hoque of the new committee alleged that those who are involved with the politics of Chhatra Dal and Shibir were kept in the committee in exchange of money.

Besides, the dedicated BCL-men were deprived of the posts due to unknown reason, said the BCL leader.

However, six followers of the Mayor Nasir got post in the committee.
