Quota reformists on Tuesday took out a procession on the campus of Dhaka University demanding quick publication of gazette reforming quota system in government jobs.
At the same time, leaders and activists of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) paraded through the campus welcoming the cabinet recommendation abolishing the quota system.Apart from the publication of gazette, quota reformists demanded withdrawal of all ‘baseless’ cases against them and punishment of those who launched attacks on them.
In his speech, convener of ‘Bangladesh General Student Rights Protection Forum (BGSRPF) Hasan Al Mamun welcomed the recommendation to scrap the quota system for Class I and Class II jobs in civil service.
He, however, said they will continue the movement until their demand is met.
Join convener of BGSRPF Nurul Hoque Nur warned that they will go for a tough movement if the government dilly-dallies with the publication of the gazette.
On the other hand, BCL leaders claim that quota reformists are ‘actually BNP and Jamaat-Shibir men’. They (reformists) are trying to mar the congenial atmosphere of campus, they said.
Meanwhile, students of Jahangirnagar University staged a demonstration on the campus demanding the gazette for reformation of existing quota system.Under the banner of Bangladesh Shadharan Shikkharthi Odhikar Sangrakkhan Parishad, they also brought out a protest rally from the central library premises to realise their demand.
