Man gets 2 yrs jail for torturing wife over dowry

BENAPOLE: A man has sentenced two years’ rigorous imprisonment for a dowry case and fine of Tk 3,000 for further one month’s imprisonment.

On Tuesday, senior judicial magistrate Nusrat Jabeen Nimmi passed the order. The convicted Moshiur Rahman son of Hafiz Sheikh at Bhigil Hat village of Abhaynagar upazila.

On May 19, 2015, wife Poly Khatun filed a case against her husband on dowry charges.

In the case, he mentioned that they were married in 1996. Since marriage, he started torturing her for dowry. After the birth of the first child, the accused put his wife out of the house. In 2001, the wife sued the case.

Before the verdict of the case, husband took part in the meeting. Later, three other daughters were born in their house. Afterwards, Moshiur again demanded Tk 50,000 for dowry and at one stage January 12, 2015 he tortured her. At one stage she escaped from the house with her four children. Later Poly Khatun filed a case against her husband.
