Moderate tremor rocks Dhaka

A moderate tremor was felt in the capital and some other parts of the country on Wednesday morning as a 5.3 magnitude earthquake jolted Assam in India.

The epicenter of the tremor was located at Kokrajhar district of Assam state, 293 kilometres north of Dhaka, said M Hanif Sheikh, electronic assistant of Bangladesh Meteorological Department.

The earthquake struck at the depth of 10 kilometers and occurred around 10:50 am which lasted for 30 seconds.

The nearest border of Bangladesh from the epicenter is Bhurungamari of Kurigram district, he said, adding that it was 293 km north of BMD Seismic Centre at Agargaon in Dhaka.
