CHATTOGRAM: Deprived leaders and activists of Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) Chattogram South district unit allegedly carried out vandalism at BNP office of the same unit over the newly-formed committee in the city’s New Market area on Wednesday.
The attackers also damaged images of party founder Ziaur Rahman and party Chairperson Khaleda Zia at the party office at Dost Building, said sources. However, denying the allegation of vandalism, JCD leaders claimed that none of them was involved with the incident.
It may be mentioned that a partial committee of South district unit of the JCD was announced making Shahidul Alam Shaheed president and Mohammad Mohsin general secretary on August 1.
Later, two leaders were relieved from the committee on charges of submitting fake certificates of studentship resulting in a dispute.
South district JCD General Secretary Mohammad Mohsin told the daily sun that they led by the unit BNP President Jafrul Islam Chowdhury were observing token hunger-strike as part of central programme in the city’s Notun Chattor area during the incident.
“We had no programme at the party office today,” he said alleging that outsiders carried out the vandalism to tarnish image of the JCD.
Replying to a question, he said they informed the matter to the party high-ups for taking action in this regard. On receiving information, South district BNP President Jafrul Islam Chowdhury rushed to the spot and inspected the office.
He said those who carried out the vandalism are agents of Awami League (AL) and action will be taken against them.
