‘Fix Tk 16,000 as minimum wage for RMG workers’

Bam Ganatantrik Jote or Left Democratic Alliance on Sunday demanded to fix Tk 16,000 as minimum wage for an entry-level worker of the country’s garment sector.

The alliance also threatened to start a tougher wage movement if their demands are not met immediately.

The newly-formed political alliance came up with the threat at a programme at CPB headquarters at Mukti Bhaban in the capital’s Purana Paltan.

Biplobi Workers Party or Revolutionary Workers Party of Bangladesh (RWPB) general secretary Saiful Haque, also new alliance coordinator, presided over the meeting, said a press release.

The Communist Party of Bangladesh (CPB) president Mujahidul Islam Selim and general secretary Shah Alam, Bangladesher Samajtantrik Dal (BaSaD) general secretary Khalequzzaman, BaSaD (Marxist) leader Shuvranshu Chakraborty, Ganasanghati Andolan chief coordinator Zonayed Saki, United Communist League general secretary Mosharraf Hossain Nannu, Biplobi Workers Party or Revolutionary Workers Party of Bangladesh (RWPB) general secretary Moshrefa Mishu and Samajtantrik Andolan convener Hamidul Haque were also present at the function.

During the progamme, the speakers said there is a conspiracy running to decrease real wage of the garment workers’ in the name wage hike.

They alleged that the government also took part with the garment owners in this conspiracy.
