Clash leaves one dead in Cox’s Bazar

COX’S BAZAR: One person was shot to death and 12 others were injured in a clash between staff of forest department and encroachers centring developing structure in the district on Friday.

The deceased was identified as Mostak Ahmed, 35, son of Mohammad of Eidgaon Meherghona area under the district headquarters.

The injured were identified as the deceased’s brother Shafi Alam and Abu Taher, Meherghona Forest Beat Officer Mamunur Rashid Khan, guards Shahidul Islam Sohag, Mannan Khan, Abdur Rashid, Mansur Alam, Ashraf Ali, Abdul Malek, headman Azizul Hoque and two others.

Inspector (Investigation) Minhaz Mahmud Bhuiyan of Edigaon police investigation centre said Mostak Ahmed and his family had been developing structure illegally by cutting hill in Achhinna Mura area, adjacent to social afforestation of Meherghona Forest Beat under Cox’s Bazar Forest Department (North), for last few days despite objection by the forest department.
