Slaughtered body of a businessman recovered from a residential hotel, ex-wife arrested

CHATTOGRAM: Slaughtered body of a businessman was recovered from a residential hotel in the city’s Foy’s Lake area on early Friday.

Police arrested ex-wife of the deceased in this connection.

The deceased was identified as Md Mainuddin, 35, son of late Sirajul Islam of Chhagalnaiya upazila in Feni district.

He was involved with sand business at his locality. 

Sources said the victim along with his ex-wife Roksana Akter Popy, 22, booked a room on the second floor of ‘Lake City Residential Hotel’ in the Foy’s Lake area under Khulshi Police Station on Wednesday.  

The hotel boys noticed slaughtered body of Mainuddin lying on bed on Thursday night when they were checking the room. The ex-wife was not found in the room at that time, they said.

Deputy Commissioner (DC-North) Md Abdul Warish Khan of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) told the daily sun that on information, they rushed to the spot and recovered the body from the room No-203.

The body was sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) morgue for autopsy, he said.

Later, police arrested the ex-wife from a residence in the city’s Gate No-2 area in this connection.

Popy was being interrogated to identify the murderer and cause behind the murder, he said.

Meanwhile, the victim’s brother Jafar Uddin filed a murder case accusing Popy with the concerned police station in this connection.

The plaintiff in the case mentioned that Popy is a medical student studying in China and former wife of the victim. The couple got separated when Popy went to China for study, he said.
