A Glimpse Of The Bands From The Nineties

This generation has some decent bands whose names would probably pop up in your mind if you were asked to name a few. However, kids from this time will never realize the meaning of the tears you had when you saw Backstreet Boys “Quit Playing Games With My Heart” on MTV. They may not understand why you still look at pictures of the Irish boy band ‘Boyzone’. And who can match the craze for the other Irish band Westlife? Well, you could say we have ‘One Direction’. But then again, they have gone to an indefinite hiatus ever since 2016. So clearly, boys as well as girls need to look two decades back for some band music inspiration. Let’s take a look at those bands from the 90’s that are bound to make you nostalgic:

‘Spice Girls’ Spiced Up Life

When we think about girl bands, we cannot cancel ‘Spice Girls’ from the equation. Fifth Harmony, Sugababes, TLC are all great but ‘Spice Girls’ was just awesome. Each member had a cool pet name that was consistent to her personality. Emma, with the cute pigtails was Baby Spice. Melanie C was ‘Sporty Spice’ because she was the hardcore tomboy. Victoria was always posh and fashionable. Hence she was ‘Posh Spice’. Melanie B, the bold and beautiful one, was ‘Scary Spice’ while Geri with the sassy attitude was ‘Ginger Spice’. This power-puff group was a massive success and perhaps could have had an even brighter future had not the band split after Ginger left the group to pursue a solo career.

‘Boyzone’ And Their Beauty Of Words

If you want a song with soft music, no repetition and with such lyrics that will make your beloved melt, ‘Boyzone’ is the band for you. “Key To My Life” by Boyzone for example where the boys sit in a classroom, singing the song with words such as “You're the key to my life, Rain on the window covers the trace, Of all the tears that I've had to waste, And now I'm missing you so, And I won't let you go away ..” inspires a beautiful feeling altogether. “Words” is another powerful and beautiful creation of the band. The poetic beauty of the lyrics - “You think that I don't even mean a single word I say, it’s only words and words are all I have to take your heart away” - will take your breath away. Present culture of software music, use of profanity and repetition in lyrics is a depletion of the richness of the entire pop genre in general. If you really want to listen to a song and feel good about it, look for Boyzone’s songs.

Eternal Appeal Of ‘Backstreet Boys’

Backstreet Boys’ fans were not fans like any others. They were disciples. This group of young, dashing men from Orlando, Florida mesmerized all with their hits, one after another. The energy they had in their dance numbers and the passion they had in their soft romantic songs made fans, mainly girls, go gaga over them. They are the first group since Sade to have their first nine albums reach the top 10 on the Billboard 200. Moreover, they are the only boy band to do so. ‘Backstreet Boys’ has sold over 100 million records worldwide. There was something about their music and their choice of words that attracted listeners like magnets. And for one thing, the lyrics were and still are relatable. You can still sing their songs to your girlfriend and it’s guaranteed that she will be impressed. While these days it’s more about bodies and flings with artists singing songs such as “Shape of You”, for Backstreet Boys, love was more of a mind, body and soul relationship and the proof of that is their song “Shape of My Heart”.
