BNP has taken decision to place written proposals before the government for joining the next parliamentary elections.

The decision was finalised at a meeting of BNP  standing committee - the party’s highest policymaking body- at its chairperson Khaleda Zia’s Gulshan office in the capital on Monday.

Earlier, holding meeting with leaders of 78 organising districts on August 3 and 4, the BNP policymaking body took their opinions about party’s strategy ahead of next national polls. After that, the standing committee sat in a meeting on Saturday and it was adjourned without taking any concrete decision.

They again sat in a meeting on Monday and took decision on various organisational and political issues.

“We’ll inform Khaleda Zia and BNP Acting Chairman Tariue Rahman about the outcomes of the meetings and possible decisions as they will approve these or may bring any necessary corrections before implementing those,” a BNP leader who was present in the meeting told the daily sun wishing not to be named.

He said as per decision, BNP will place written proposals before the government to participate in the 11th parliamentary polls. “We’re positive about taking part in the next general election,” the BNP standing committee member said.

The proposals include release of Khaleda Zia and other BNP leaders and activists from jail, dissolving parliament before the next general election, reconstitution of the current election commission, deployment of army with magistracy power during general election and allowing the party to hold rally and meetings.
