A Dhaka court on Monday rejected the bail petition of actress Quazi Nawshaba Ahmed in a case filed under the ICT Act on charges of spreading rumours on social media during students’ movement for road safety.

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Asaduzzaman Nur passed the order after a hearing on her bail petition submitted by lawyer Imrul Quasar on completion of her 6-day remand in two phases.

On the day, Nawshaba was taken to Dhaka Medical College and Hospital (DMCH) at 3:30pm after she fell ill in the court before producing her in the case.

Nawshaba was taken to the Medicine Ward of DMCH where doctors  examined her and gave treatment. Doctors said that she had been suffering from dysentery.

Earlier, Nawshaba was detained from Uttara on August 4 for allegedly spreading rumours on social media during students’ movement for road safety. Police said she did so to create anarchy and confuse people.

A day after her detention, she was placed on a four-day remand after police produced her before court with a seven-day remand prayer.

On August 10, the court again granted fresh two-day remand for Nawshaba.
