CHATTOGRAM: Two drug peddlers were killed in a ‘gunfight’ with members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in the city’s Motijharna area on early Friday.

One of the deceased was identified as Md Babul, 35, son of Abul Hossain of Lalmohan upazila in Bhola district, while identity of another could not be known. The unidentified deceased was a microbus drive by profession.

Senior Assistant Director (Media) Mimtanur Rahman of the Rab-7, Chattogram said acting on a tip off, they carried out a drive in the Motijharna area under Khulshi police station at around 1:30am on Friday.

The Rab-men signaled a microbus during the drive. But, the drug peddlers from the vehicle opened fire prompting the elite crime busters to retaliate with bullet, he said.

At one stage, some criminals fled after coming out of the microbus, he said.

Later, bullet-hit bodies of the duo were found lying inside the vehicle, the Rab officer said.

Rab-men also seized the microbus and recovered a local gun, seven rounds of bullet and 85 kilograms of cannabis from it, he added.
