Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader on Sunday blamed BNP itself for trying to ‘minus’ Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman from politics by dropping section 7 from the party constitution at midnight.
“BNP itself is trying to ‘minus’ Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman from politics by dropping section 7 from party constitution at midnight just eight days before announcement of verdict against the party chairperson,” he said.Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, was addressing a press conference at Awami League president Sheikh Hasina’s political office at Dhanmondi in the capital.
“Has the government forced BNP to cancel section 7 from its party constitution?” he posed a question.
Quader said that BNP had proved itself a self-declared corrupt political party.
Referring to BNP’s participation in the upcoming general elections without Khaleda Zia, Quader said there is still difference of opinion among the party leaders.
“It won’t be clear before October. But, election won’t wait for a specific political party or its leader as polls is a democratic process,” he said.
Replying to a question about quota reform movement, the minister asked to have faith on the prime minister.“Now, BCL has no committee. So, it should be inquired who had carried out violent acts using name of the ruling party’s student wing,” he said.
Awami League leaders Abdur Rahman, Dipu Moni, BM Mojammel Haq, Khalid Mahmud Chowdhury, AKM Enamul Haque Shamim, Abdus Sobhan Golap, Delwar Hossain and Aminur Islam Amin were present, among others.
