CHATTOGRAM: A mobile court of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in a drive fined Tk 10 lakh to private ‘Max Hospital and Diagnostics Limited’ after finding huge irregularities on Sunday.

The mobile court also gave an ultimatum of 15 days to authority of the hospital, where daughter of Journalist Rubel Khan died allegedly due to wrong treatment and negligence by doctors, to address the irregularities.

The mobile court led by Rab Executive Magistrate Md Sarwoer Alam also conducted drive at private CSCR Hospital in OR Nizam Road and fined Tk 4 lakh for irregularities.

After the drive at Max Hospital in the city’s Mehedibag area, Magistrate Sarwoer told the reporters that date-expired medicines and reagents were used in different testes at pathological laboratory of the hospital that lacks skilled pathologist.

“Some date-expired surgical equipments and unauthorised medicines were also found at operation theatre,” he said.

“The hospital used to provide diagnosis reports of different tests by using their own pad, though the tests are conducted at other laboratories,” he said.

There is a provision of having own arrangement to conduct experiment of samples at every hospital, but it was not found there, he said.

The hospital authority used to send samples of diseases to outside of the country for test without permission from the authority concerned, which is a clear violation of rule, the magistrate said.

Sarwoer said they found no passed biochemist and microbiologist at the biochemistry lab where an HSC passed employee had been working.

The hospital also has no blood bank while they have been selling medicines despite the date of drug license of their pharmacy expired in 2016, he added.

Immediate after finding the irregularities, the Private Hospital and Lab Owners’ Association in Chattogram announced for stopping all medical services, diagnosis and private practice for an indefinite period protesting the drive at the Max Hospital.

When asked, the RAB magistrate said obtaining medication service is a fundamental right of citizens as per constitution.

Legal action will be taken if anyone tries to bar people from getting the service, he said adding that the drive will continue.

The mobile court also fined Tk 4 lakh to the private CSCR Hospital on different charges including for using date-expired surgical equipments, said Senior Assistant Director (Media) Mimtanur Rahman of the Rab-7, Chattogram.
