The Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs, Julie Bishop, has announced an additional humanitarian funding package of AUD18.4 million to meet the urgent needs of Rohingya people.

The aid is also intended for the host community in Bangladesh affected by the crisis, said the Australian High Commission in Dhaka on Monday in a statement.

The statement reads a large number of Rohingya people that have fled across the border from Myanmar into Bangladesh have created one of the world’s largest humanitarian crises.

The Bangladesh government is continuing to devote significant resources to this response and the Australian government is committed to working side by side with Bangladesh to support those in need, it continued.
