A Dhaka court on Thursday sent three people, including a couple, to jail in a case filed with Ramna Police Station on charges of torturing a 12-year-old domestic worker at a house in the capital’s Easkaton area.
Metropolitan Magistrate Mahmuda Aktar sent the three accused —- Iqbal Hossain, his wife Tamanna Khan Rini and nephew Tanjilur Rahman—-to jail rejecting their bail and remand petitions in the case.Earlier in the day, Inspector Shafiquel Islam, also investigation officer of the case, produced them before the court seeking a seven-day remand petition for each.
Opposing the remand plea, defence counsel Nazrul Islam filed a bail petition before the court for his client. After hearing, the court rejected both petitions and sent them to jail.
Earlier, police on Wednesday rescued the tortured house help named Zahidul Islam Shawon, 12, from a house at Eskaton garden area in the capital after they received allegation of torturing through hot line 999.
