A conflict between Barishal and Jhalokati Bus Owners’ Associations led a suspension of bus service on 15 routes of the country’s southern region.
The bus service was stopped from Rupatali Bus Terminal in Barishal city around 11:00am on Thursday. The bus service will be suspended from Barishal to Jhalokati to Patuakhali to Bauphal to Barguna to Kuakata to Bhandaria to Pirojpur to Patharghata and seven other routes.
Shahidul Islam Titu, joint general secretary of Rupatali Bus-Minibus, Coach-Microbus Workers Union, said that after a long time suspended, the bus service between Barishal and Jhalokati began from June 13.
According to him, Jhalokati Bus Owners’ Association removed their buses from Rupatali Bus Terminal in Barishal in the morning and began boarding passengers from their temporary bus stand near Kalijira Bridge at Raipura, which is three kilometers off Rupatali.
On the other hand, when the buses of Barishal Owners’ Association started leaving for Jhalokati, they were blocked by the members of Jhalokati Bus Owners’ Association at Raipura triggering a clash between them.
