Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday rewarded players of Bangladesh national women’s cricket team with a cheque for Tk 2 crore for their outstanding performance in international cricket tournament.
She gave Tk 11 lakh each cricketer while Tk 27 lakh in special skill category.Sheikh Hasina, also president of Awami League, handed over the cheque to women cricketers at a reception programme at Ganabhaban in the capital.
Speaking on the occasion, the premier said the victory march has started and the pace of win will continue.
“Sports should be spread throughout the country,” she said
She also commemorated her father Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and her grandfather’s interest in sports.
“It was rare to get a woman cricketer in Bangladesh, but now the scenario has changed,” she said.
Bangladesh Cricket Board President Nazmul Hasan Papon was also present at the ceremony.Earlier, Bangladesh women cricketers secured a brilliant win against India by three wickets in the final match of the Women’s Twenty20 Asia Cup on June 10.
