AL has no headache for BNP’s joining polls: Quader

Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader on Monday said they have no headache whether BNP will participate in the next general election or not.

“We have no headache whether BNP will participate in the next general election or not,” he told reporters after a joint meeting of his party.

The AL held the meeting with leaders of its associate organisations and Dhaka city chapters at its president Sheikh Hasina’s political office in Dhanmondi of the capital.

Quader, also road transport and bridges minister, said Awami League is not a barrier to BNP’s participation in the elections.

Referring to the 2014 general election that BNP boycotted, he said BNP remained off the election race by ignoring everything for their own interest.

“But we can’t ignore the Constitution for them. This is a reality. Is it a fault of Awami League? Is it a fault of Sheikh Hasina,” he posed a question.

The minister claimed that BNP has a tendency to lodge complaints to foreigners instead of going to their respective constituencies.

“They also lodge complaints to diplomats, but it is political bankruptcy,” he said.

He also alleged that BNP joined hands with the masterminds of one-eleven.

“They thought that we are not aware about their meetings at home and abroad, but we know everything about their activities,” he said.

“They held meetings in Thailand and they visited many other places. Even they held meeting at night in Dhaka. But, no conspiracy will work this time and people will resist it,” he added.
