Two more suspected drug dealers were killed in a ‘gunfight’ during an ongoing crackdown against narcotic drugs in Kalibari Lane area of Mymensingh early Tuesday.

The deceased were identified as Rony Mia, 30, son of Mamun Mia of Krishtopur area, and Anwar Hossain alias Anar, 38, son of Siraj Ali of Bashbari Colony.

Ashiku Rahman, officer-in-charge of Detective Branch of the district police, said detectives conducted a drive there when drug traders gathered at an abandoned house to share drug money.

Sensing cops’ presence, the gang fired gunshots at them, forcing the lawmen to retaliate in ‘self-defence’ which led to the gun battle, he said.

After the gunfight, law enforcers found two drug traders wounded by bullets.

Later, they were rushed to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital where doctors declared them dead.

Two policemen were injured during the incident, the OC added.

Police recovered 1750 piece of Yaba tablets, three bullet shells and a foreign pistol from the spot.

With the fresh figures, at least 150 ‘drug traders’ were killed in ‘gunfights’ after the anti-drug operation began across the country in May.
