The Election Commission (EC) should take proper measures against the unauthorised organisations who deliberately throw a fair election into question without entering any polling stations, said Dr. Nazmul Ahsan Kalimullah, member of EWG and Vice-Chancellor of Begum Rokeya University in Rangpur.

“Some organisations, including SUJON, stayed 400 yards away from polling centres, but made comments on the election. These kinds of comments have created antagonism,” he said.

He was addressing a seminar titled “City Corporation Election: Khulna to Gazipur” arranged by Bangladesh Heritage Foundation at CIRDAP auditorium in the city.

Bhorer Kagoj editor Shyamal Dutta said there is no code of conduct for mass media to cover the election. The commission should create code of conduct for mass media, he said.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof AAMS Arefin Siddique said those who have been defeated in Khulna City Corporation Election have tried to question the credibility of the election.

In his speech, Waliur Rahman, Chairman, Bangladesh Heritage Foundation, said some organisations that are not authorised by the EC are making reports on the election.

Jagannath University VC Prof Mijanur Rahman, Dhaka University Prof Gobinda Chakraborty, Prof Dr. Delower Hossain, Prof Mesbah Kamal, World University VC Dr. Abdul Mannan and National Press Club President Shafiqur Rahman spoke, among others.
