Electric trap kills two youths

CHATTOGRAM: Four persons including two tribal youths were killed in separate accidents in the city and district on Thursday.

The deceased were identified as Kechaching Marma, 25, Ubaching Marma, 22, Sahab Uddin, 52, and Md Belal, 22.

Sources said the tribal youths were electrocuted in an electric trap they made for catching wild animals at a hill at Jungle Bhatiari under Sitakunda upazila in the district on Thursday morning.

Inspector (Investigation) Mojammel Hoque of Sitakunda police station said the tribal youths were working as gardener for a developer company.

They made an electric trap with live electric wire and put it at a hill to catch wild animals. But, they fell victim to the trap and electrocuted, he said.

On information, police recovered the bodies and sent to Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH) morgue for autopsy, said Inspector Mojammel.

Besides, Belal was electrocuted at Brick Field Road in Patharghata area under Kotwali police station in the city at around 10:00am. He came into contact with live electric wire while working at a workshop named MS Engineering.

Injured Belal was rushed to the CMCH where doctors declared him dead, said ASI Alauddin Talukdar of the hospital police outpost.

On the other hand, Sahab Uddin fell off fourth floor of his under-construction building while inspecting work of labourers at Lakeview Housing Society in Pahartali area under Double-mooring police station at around 7:30am.

The accident left him critically injured, sources said.

He was sent to the CMCH where physicians declared him dead, said the sources.
